A Musical Petting Zoo

Music and Dance for Children

Quinta Dominica

This event for families with young children takes place in a 16th Century garden in the Colonial City. This hands- on event features eight musicians who will demonstrate their instruments and three dancers who will teach a traditional Dominican Dance. Join us for an audience participation event created for the whole family.

Since its first stones rose in the 1540's Iglesia Santa Bárbara has survived attacks by Francis Drake, earthquakes and hurricanes. Its surrounding walls and canons helped protect the Colonial City. María Teresa Ruiz de Catrain tells the story of the Santa Bárbara barrio, home to the builders of the Colonial City and baptismal site of Juan Pablo Duarte.

Two years after Johann Sebastian Bach met the Margrave of Brandenburg he sent him the Brandenburg Concertos. A collection of six works featuring the primary instruments of the Baroque Era, they were one of the great summits in the history of music.  This charla by John Thomas Dodson explores the rest of the story.

Boston's Handel and Haydn Society performs Brandenburg Concertos 1, 2 & 4 at Regina Angelorum

Hailed for their "energy and sparkle in Bach" by The Boston Musical Intelligencer, the Handel and Haydn Society is Boston's premier period instrument ensemble specializing in music from the Baroque and Classical Eras.

On this exclusive appearance in the Dominican Republic, Handel and Haydn Society will perform all six of Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concertos over two evenings in Iglesia Regina Angelorum, built at the same time that Bach sent his manuscript to the Margrave of Brandenburg.
