To fulfill this mission, the foundation organizes a festival, Conciertos de la Villa de Santo Domingo, and presents educational concerts and activities in historic sites for residents and visitors to the Colonial City in historic sites that celebrate the rich Dominican heritage and history of the first city in the Western Hemisphere.
About Conciertos de la Villa de Santo Domingo
The project Conciertos de la Villa de Santo Domingo was conceived in December 2009. During a conversation on a beach in the Dominican Republic, four musicians friends, John Thomas Dodson, Victor Mitrov, Yolanda Borrás and Margarita Miranda de Mitrov shared the desire to create music events of high artistic quality in the Dominican Republic. In assessing the cultural and historical wealth of the country, they decided that the ideal place to celebrate these events was the Colonial City of Santo Domingo. From this moment on the mission and vision of Conciertos de la Villa de Santo Domingo was created, a project that has been supported and welcomed with enthusiasm by businesses, individuals and governmental agencies of the Dominican Republic.
Since its inception in 2011, Conciertos de la Villa de Santo Domingo has presented numerous concerts and educational programs in various historical sites within the Colonial City. Its participating artists are members of internationally recognized musical institutions in the United States and Europe.
One of the most important qualities of this organization is that all of its musicians agree to go beyond the role of performer. While they are visiting the country they teach, partner with national musical institutions and engage in social responsibility programs, Through their artistry they make a tangible difference in the lives of those who live in the Dominican Republic. Far beyond their performances, they leave behind them an important and lasting contribution to the development of the quality of life among the residents of the country. Many of them continue to interact and support the development of young musicians who aspire to rise in the profession.
By locating its major activities in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Colonial City, Conciertos de la Villa de Santo Domingo actively advocates for the revitalization of the area by encouraging an appreciation for its rich heritage. It honors the sacred spaces in which it performs in the belief that raising awareness of the beauty of these sites will ultimately transform the understanding of the unique value of the Colonial City and increase a desire among the residents of the Dominican Republic to protect it for future generations.
